History

Caernarfon Wanderers Football Club started its first season in the Caernarfon & District League in 2007 following a discussion by a group of friends as to how many football players from Caernarfon were playing for local clubs outside the town.

In November 2006, Gwynedd Council announced that it had agreed to change one of Caernarfon’s most famous football fields into an extension for the local cemetery.

The field is called Cae Phillips and is most famous for being the centrepiece of the popular S4C programme C’mon Midfield.

Following the announcement, there was a vast interest by local development firms to buy the adjoining field, namely Cae Top. Cae Top has been a local football field for many years and has been used during the past few years by local junior and Sunday league teams.

Having made enquiries about the future plans for Cae Top, Wanderers were told by a Gwynedd Council spokesman that the intention was to keep the field open to the public but that it had no future plans for changing rooms as there wasn’t enough interest from the public.

It was therefore decided that something needed to be done to ensure Cae Top didn't disappear and ensuring its use for the future of junior and grass roots football in Caernarfon.

Following on from the intial "discussion in a pub" Caernarfon Wanderers Football Club was formed.

It is hoped that with the Wanderers competing regularly at local league level, the Council and Assembly will see the need for purpose built facilities, not only for the benefit of the present club, but for the benefit of the community as a whole.
